REWIND
And where was I last night?
Curled safe against the rain
with a head full of selfish problems.
And what was it like
When you lowered the noose
tightened the rope?
It's a sucker punch
Straight right to the gut
And the bile ebbs like a tide
somewhere deep inside
Where the scorching tears arise.
And I wither like a funeral wreath
Turn myself inside out
Like death is some disease
And the cold chill that it brings
is uncarried by the wind
And that wind...
Did the curtains breathe and sigh
As you said your last goodbye?
And the fire in your veins
cooled chemical froth
And did it stop the pain?
When I lay to sleep last night
Safe against the rain.
